Events Description
Métis Week, observed during the week of November 16 (Louis Riel Day), commemorates the rich culture, history and contributions of the Métis people in Alberta and across Canada. Throughout November, join The Confluence for a guided outdoor tour about Calgary’s Métis history from knowledgeable Métis interpreters.
In 1881, Métis people made up two-thirds of the population settled around the confluence of the rivers in Calgary. This tour explores how these original Métis communities shaped many of the neighbourhoods integral to Calgary’s identity. From the oldest building still in its original location to currently unfolding community efforts, explore Métis culture, its place within the history of Mohkinstsis, and the influence Métis people still continue to hold within these spaces.
