Events Description

Good Women Dance Collective (GWDC) presents the 16th production of Convergence. Convergence is a dance double bill featuring two premieres: Blue Orbit, by GWDC, and GAPE by Tia Ashley Kushniru and Susannah Haight.

Surrounded by a landscape of objects, a surreal soundscape is emitted. We listen, we witness, and we move. Everything can be seen in this blue orbit, exposing the space and all its contents.

Blue Orbit is choreographed by Molly McDermott, performed by Alida Kendell, Alison Kause and erψn temp3st, with dramaturgy by Lin Snelling.

In Tia Ashley Kushniruk (亚 女弟) and Susannah Haight’s GAPE, they are working with the figure of the Virgin Mary as an entry point into exploring the “sacred feminine construct” and how female iconography in religious contexts has been used to define, restrict, and idealize women.

They explore what happens when that image fractures, when she is pushed into spaces that are unruly, excessive, or even monstrous. The piece draws from horror cinema, films like Possession (Dir: Andrzej Żuławski) and Titaine (Dir: Julia Ducournau) and body horror, as a way to destabilize these traditional narratives. Susannah is bringing their background in set design and tableau vivant, and Tia is bringing her Bouffon practice, blending satire, distortion, and image-making in equal measure.
