Events Description

Focusing on the most innovative and ground-breaking work by Canadian filmmakers and video artists, particularly the work of Manitoba and prairie artists, the festival celebrates the impetus to create in motion picture as a means of artistic expression and brings works that may be overlooked by the mainstream to the forefront.

Our 20th anniversary edition takes us back to our roots, focusing on the very impetus for the festival’s founding in 2005: to provide a platform for new Winnipeg and prairie cinema, and to serve as a meeting ground for experimental film on the prairies.

We’re especially thrilled to open this year’s festival with the films of one of Winnipeg’s most influential filmmakers, editors and programmers – WNDX’s own Jaimz Asmundson. Asmundson was one of the main driving forces behind the festival and his contributions played a large role in the organization being able to reach this milestone anniversary. While he passed away far too young, Asmundson’s spirit remains central to what WNDX is today, and we are honoured to celebrate his work on this anniversary year.
