Arts, History, & Culture in Creemore
Up and down Mill Street are a variety of galleries open to the public for browsing and shopping. Among those galleries are the Sidedoor Gallery, the Mill Street Art Studio, Mad River Pottery, and the Gallery Lagom. This same area also offers ways to explore the local arts or culture with an afternoon of shopping. Local shops like the Creemore House of Stitches, 100 Mile Store, Mill Street Vintage, or Nomad at Heart all offer a variety of wares to peruse or take home as a souvenir.
- While browsing the arts or galleries around Creemore, it will be just as simple to take in some local town history. Begin with the smallest remaining piece of history at North America’s smallest jailhouse, located on Library Street. The former jail is only about 15’ by 20’ with three cells.
- And right beside the jail is one of Creemore’s original log homes, kept in great condition. The grounds of these historic sites are well-kept and manicured with small gardens to walk through around the buildings. Both are beside the Public Library.
- Every Saturday from mid-may to October, there will be free activities and interpretive learning sessions around the library, the tiny jail, and the Creemore Log Cabin.
- Historical plaques line various streets in Creemore to create a self-guided walking tour. A few other key parts of the tour include the Bethel Union Pioneer Cemetery and Sly’s Cabin.
