It’s time to unlock the doors and explore some of Guelph’s most iconic sites! The city is throwing open its doors for the Doors Open Guelph event this Saturday.
Guelph’s event is the kickoff to Doors Open Ontario, which is a province-wide event.
The public can visit some of Guelph’s cultural, historical, and architectural sites for free guided tours and interactive experiences from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on April 25th.
Participating Locations:
- Trails Open: Ontario Reformatory – 785 York Road: Guided walks along a trail built by reformatory inmates in 1912, highlighting heritage structures and natural features.
- Hammond Museum of Radio – 595 Southgate Drive: Founded in 1982 by Fred Hammond, the museum showcases over 2,000 artifacts tracing 100 years of radio, including crystal sets, early broadcasts, and military equipment.
- Royal City Mission – 50 Quebec Street: Built in 1871 by Henry Langley in Roman Gothic style, the former Chalmers Presbyterian Church now hosts services supporting people experiencing homelessness, including meals and facilities.
- eMERGE Guelph Sustainability Home 1 – 4 Honey Crescent: This environmental show house demonstrates how upgrades to insulation, systems, windows, and appliances can cut climate emissions by 70 to 80 per cent.
- eMERGE Guelph Sustainability Home 2 – 51 Exhibition Street: This environmental show house shows how upgrades to insulation, heating, cooling, ventilation, and home features can reduce climate emissions by 70 to 80 percent.
- Central Public School – 97 Dublin Street North: The original 1876 limestone school featured 16 classrooms and a prominent belfry. Its bell remains preserved at the entrance of the 1969 building.
- Fire Station 5 – 380 Elizabeth Street: Opened in 2005, this 2,743-square-metre fire station operates 24/7, featuring an outdoor training compound and hands-on props for realistic firefighter training scenarios.
- Slinky Swellness Centre – 26 Boult Avenue: Slinky Swellness Centre is a mobile, multi sensory studio in a 1921 home, offering inclusive programs inspired by therapeutic play and creative expression since 2018.
- Masjid – Muslim Society of Guelph – 286 Water Street: The Muslim Society of Guelph Masjid, established in a former school bought in 2012, serves as a worship and community space with tours on Muslim culture.
- Diyode Community Workshop – 700 York Road: A 232-square-metre community workshop provides tools for woodworking, electronics, and more, fostering collaboration while promoting DIY, building, and repairing over buying or discarding.
- Restoration Design – 24 Hayes Avenue: Restoration Design Inc. manufactures rust repair panels for vintage Porsche cars, producing parts in-house and showcasing tools, machines, and restoration processes.
