Eclipse Nordic Hot Springs
You may not have visited Takhini Hot Springs, but there is a high chance that you have heard of the Hair Freezing contest, a unique celebration that used to be held at that natural hot springs location in Yukon.
The facility at natural Hot Springs which was in operation for a few decades closed a couple of years back.
A new spa that takes inspiration from Japanese, Turkish, and Nordic bath traditions is opening at the location.
Promising an entirely new Boreal experience, Eclipse Nordic Hot Springs will be welcoming visitors starting Monday, May 9th, 2022.
There are three pools at Eclipse Nordic Hot Springs and eight Japanese clay hot tubs.
The wheelchair-accessible Eclipse pool is the main pool, with depths up to 75 cm. The other wheelchair-accessible pool called Aurora Pool is designed to be used even at -50C.
You can also choose from one of the eight Japanese hand-crafted ceramic bathtubs imported from the famous Shigaraki region of Japan (opening later this year) as part of the Nordic bath (alternating between hot and cold, followed by a period of rest) ritual.
The Onsen Pool entirely lined with rock is another Japanese-style pool fed by a cascading waterfall.
Other facilities available include saunas, steam rooms, and relaxation rooms.
Hair Freezing Contest
Later this year, visitors to this new spa can also enjoy cedar hot tubs, a cold plunge pool, a snow rolling area, fire bowls, mud rolling and more.
Eclipse Nordic Hot Springs which is located 25 minutes from downtown Whitehorse is also promising to bring back the Hair Freezing Contest this winter.
Eclipse Nordic Hot Springs – Yukon
What: Built on the site of the historic Takhini Hot Springs, the 19+ only Eclipse Nordic Hot Springs boasts four pools, two steam rooms, two saunas, relax rooms, an in-house café.
When: Starting May 9th, open 7 days a week from 10am – 10pm.
How much: Introductory rates start at $19 which includes admission into the Nordic Hot Springs facility, use of pools, saunas, steam rooms, showers, and relax rooms. In summer and fall, this also includes Club Mud, barefoot walking paths, fire bowls, Japanese clay tubs, a cold plunge pool, more deck space, and outdoor saunas.
