4. David Buchbinder & Hilario Durán
JUNO-winning musicians and composers David Buchbinder and Hilario Durán come together in a rare duo setting to explore the music of the Cubans and the Jews, refracted through the prismatic musical culture of the city that has embraced them both. These two are the compositional heart of the award-winning World Jazz ensemble Odessa/Havana (just returning from its debut tour of Brazil). In this intimate Cabaret performance they will both draw on their compositions for that project as well as delve into traditional music from both cultures.

8. Chuck Jackson & The All Stars
Chuck Jackson is the sort of openhearted, friendly guy who builds an instant rapport with audiences. He came to Downchild as their singer 24 years ago after a long career with a number of top Canadian bands. With Downchild he has been nominated for 4 Junos and has been nominated 7 times and won the Maple Blues Award, Male Vocalist of the Year twice. He was also honoured in 2002 with the Toronto Blues Society’s prestigious Blues With a Feeling Award for his achievements during a distinguished career. In 2012 Chuck received the prestigious Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal and in 2013 was inducted to the Mississauga Music Walk of Fame and Mississauga Legends Row.

The Día de Los Muertos Collective is a nonprofit that coordinates the efforts of Toronto´s Mexican community to bring a celebration that honors the dead, delights the living, promotes artistic creation and foster community development through tradition. This unique Mexican celebration –which was declared part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, in 2003– is a ritual, and a cultural expression that involves a series of different events; from sacred to festive, from religious to pagan. This year: offerings, processions, food, Aztec dance, Aboriginal hand drum songs, traditional wind band and a wide variety of Mexican music, are just some of the experiences that the audience will enjoy as well as traditional food, art, crafts, workshops and altars.
