Manitoba Extends Fuel Tax Relief Through End of 2024

The Manitoba government has announced that the current gas tax holiday will be extended until December 31, 2024.

The gas tax holiday, which applies to gasoline and diesel used for motor vehicles, was initially introduced in January. This extension allows drivers to continue saving 14 cents per litre at the pump.

“Since we cut the gas tax in January, inflation has gone down in Manitoba,” said Premier Wab Kinew in a news release.

Manitoba Bureau of Statistics reports suggest the gas tax holiday has reduced inflation by 0.4 percentage points.

Kinew highlighted that drivers of the province’s most common vehicle, pickup trucks, are saving approximately $14 per fill-up under this policy.

Per the news release, Manitoba has maintained the lowest average gas prices in Canada since the tax reduction, with inflation now within the Bank of Canada’s target range of one to three percent.
