Fully Vaccinated Canadians Can Drive to the U.S Starting November 8th

Fully vaccinated Canadians can drive to the U.S. when the land border reopens on November 8th.

The United States will reopen land and ferry ports of entry for non-essential trips by fully vaccinated travellers from Canada and Mexico.

White House assistant press secretary Kevin Munoz tweeted, “The US’ new travel policy that requires vaccination for foreign national travelers to the United States will begin on Nov 8. This announcement and date applies to both international air travel and land travel. This policy is guided by public health, stringent, and consistent.”

Currently, all airline passengers to the United States must provide a negative COVID-19 test taken within three days of travel.

Though a negative COVID-19 test is not required, visitors entering the United States will need to show proof of vaccination, if asked for, at the land/ferry border.

Further information on the type of documentation for vaccine proof is yet to be announced.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states on the website, ” For purposes of entry into the United States, vaccines accepted will include FDA approved or authorized and WHO Emergency Use Listing vaccines.”

Friday evening CDC said those who received mixed doses of two or more different COVID-19 vaccines will be considered eligible to enter the United States.

The CDC is yet to release additional guidance and information on the travel requirements.

Canada is developing a pan-Canadian, secure, and standardized proof of vaccination for international travel in partnership with provinces and territories. The passport is expected to be released sometime this fall.
