Run by Digital Doors Open Waterloo Region, this tour will take you through three cities and four rural townships, getting to know the area’s history by touring several cemeteries.

One of the locations you’ll get to visit is the Trinity Anglican Cemetery in Cambridge where you’ll learn more about the death of Meta D. Cherry. Caused by a poisoned box of chocolate, the death was investigated by the first full-time criminal detective in Ontario, John Wilson Murray. His memoir would later inspire the hit TV series Murdoch Mysteries.

Pay a visit to Castle Killbride, located in Baden before heading to the Fairmont Cemetery to meet the former resident James Livingston, a member of the Canadian parliament.

You’ll also get to learn about the history of the area’s first Mennonite settlers as you explore the First Mennonite Church and Cemetery in Kitchener, as well as the Bean Puzzle tombstone at Rushes Cemetery in Wellesley where you can try cracking the infamous code for yourself.

The tour runs from September 4th to December 31st, and is self-guided starting at Rushes Cemetery.
