Due to high inflation, there has been an increase in both the family income limit and the payment amount for the GST/HST Credit benefit year. As a result, a more significant number of Canadians will now qualify for this credit.

Canadian Revenue Agency has released the family income limit and maximum payments eligible Canadians will receive as GST/HST credit for the benefit year 2023-2024.
The GST/HST credit is a quarterly tax-free payment to individuals and families with low and moderate incomes. Its purpose is to help offset the goods and services tax/harmonized sales tax (GST/HST) they pay.
GST/HST credit depends on the annual income and is indexed to inflation, and is paid quarterly in January, April, July, and October, with the benefit year beginning in July.
The payment period spans 12 months, starting from July 1 of the year following the base year and ending on June 30 of the subsequent year.
To determine the credit amount for each payment period, CRA calculates the adjusted family net income subtracting any income received from the Universal Child Care Benefit (UCCB) and Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP), and adding back any UCCB and RDSP amounts repaid. It also includes your net income combined with that of your spouse or common-law partner, if applicable.
For the benefit year, July 2023 to June 2024, the income is based on the tax year 2022.
How Much You May Receive:
Canadians with a net family income of less than $42,335 in 2022 will receive the total credit amount.
You could get up to:
- $496 if you are single
- $650 if you are married or have a common-law partner
- $171 for each child under the age of 19
The maximum payment for the 2022-23 benefit year was $467 for singles without children, $612 for married or common-law partners and $161 for each child under 19.
