On 8 September 2022, The Queen of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth countries, Elizabeth II, died at the age of 96 at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. She was the longest-living and longest-reigning British monarch in the history of the world. Her passing has sent intense reverbs across the world, including Canada.
The Government of Canada is marking her passing with 10 days of mourning and a national commemorative ceremony.
As she was Canada’s beloved queen, many of us will want to watch the anticipated funeral, which will take place on Monday, September 19th, 2022. Edward William Fitzalan-Howard, who is in charge of the funeral, said the funeral is intended to “unite people across the globe and resonate with people of all faiths, whilst fulfilling her majesty and her family’s wishes to pay a fitting tribute to an extraordinary reign.”
Monday, September 19th is a holiday for federal employees. It is also a provincial holiday in B.C. and Atlantic Canada.
