Starting at 10 a.m., the parade will feature festive floats, marching bands, and live performances, with Santa Claus making his much-anticipated appearance to delight families and children along the route.
Santa Pur-suit
The festivities will kick off with the Santa Pur-suit, a unique holiday-themed run that invites hundreds of participants to dress as Santa.
The Santa Pur-suit, now in its 12th year, begins shortly before the parade at 9:40 a.m. with a 3-kilometer route starting at Frederick Street near Spetz and finishing in the Hakim Optical parking lot on Weber Street North in Waterloo.
This event is organized to support the YMCA of Three Rivers and raise funds for local programming in the region. Participants are required to wear a complete Santa suit, including a hat, beard, jacket, pants, and belt, to remain in the race. Those who keep their Santa suits for future events are eligible for a discount on entry fees.
Parade Route
The parade will follow a route along Weber Street, beginning at Frederick Street in Kitchener and concluding at Erb Street in Waterloo.
Residents should plan for road closures starting in the morning to accommodate both the Santa Pur-suit run and the main parade.
Check for any road closures and detours in advance to ensure smooth travel through the area during the event.
Parking is expected to be limited along the route, and participants are encouraged to dress warmly and arrive early to secure a good viewing spot.
What to Bring to the Parade
In addition to the parade, the event encourages the community to come together to support local charitable initiatives. The Food Bank of Waterloo Region will be accepting non-perishable food donations along the parade route, and firefighters will be collecting new, unwrapped toys for the Knights of Columbus’ Toy Drive.
Children attending the event can also bring letters to Santa, which will be collected by Canada Post for delivery to the North Pole.
Consider bringing new mittens, hats, and warm clothing for donation as well. The Region’s Paramedics will collect these items on behalf of the Sanguen Health Centre.
While the Kitchener-Waterloo Santa Claus Parade is the main holiday parade in the area, it is one of several festive events planned across the region. The Cambridge Santa Claus Parade will also be held on November 15 at 6 p.m., with additional parades scheduled for Ayr, Elmira, and Hespeler later in the season.
