This investment will fund the construction of a new stormwater collection system designed to improve water quality and the overall visitor experience.
The planned upgrades include the installation of a system that captures runoff and directs it to a new pumping facility. There, the water will undergo treatment using cartridge filters and UV disinfection processes. According to Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister Tammy Scott-Wallace, these improvements are part of the government’s commitment to ensure the safety and satisfaction of both tourists and local residents.
The initial phase of the project will focus on setting up the water treatment facilities and will not restrict public access to the beach. Subsequent steps involve the dredging of the nearby tidal pond and inlet to better manage storm and tidal waters.
Englobe, a consulting firm, has been hired to conduct the necessary environmental impact assessments to ensure the sustainability of the project.
Parlee Beach is notable not only for its environmental initiatives but also for its recreational offerings. The beach’s high standards in environmental management, safety, and cleanliness recently earned it the prestigious Blue Flag certification, making it one of 26 locations in Canada to receive this recognition in 2024.
