WestJet is adding five weekly routes for the 2026-27 winter season, connecting Canadian cities with destinations in Mexico, Belize, the Dominican Republic and Costa Rica.

The airline will fly between Calgary and Mérida, Mexico, for the first time beginning December 17, 2026. WestJet says it will be the only nonstop connection between Western Canada and Mérida, the capital of Yucatán.
Winnipeg will gain two new routes. Weekly service to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, starts November 28, while flights to Belize City begin December 14.
Regina will receive a weekly nonstop flight to San José del Cabo, Mexico, starting December 14. Ottawa’s new connection to Liberia, Costa Rica, begins December 20.
New Routes:
- Mérida-Calgary – 1x weekly, Beginning December 17, 2026
- San José del Cabo-Regina – 1x weekly, Beginning December 14, 2026
- Punta Cana-Winnipeg – 1x weekly, Beginning November 28, 2026
- Belize City-Winnipeg – 1x weekly, Beginning December 14, 2026
- Liberia-Ottawa – 1x weekly, Beginning December 20, 2026
“These additions support the growing demand for options in Mexico and the Latin Caribbean,” said John Weatherill, WestJet’s executive vice-president and chief commercial officer. He said the schedule is designed to expand winter travel choices while managing the airline’s fleet during the busiest season.
At the height of winter travel, WestJet plans to serve 50 sun destinations from 15 Canadian cities. The airline also expects to increase capacity on some returning routes, with details to come.
Sunwing Vacations, part of the WestJet Group, has also announced additions to its winter program. Vacation packages to Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic and Roatán in Honduras will return, while Ottawa-to-Liberia packages will be offered for the first time.
Sunwing’s winter vacation schedule runs from November 1, 2026, through April 30, 2027.
