During the winter, Schurman Park becomes the ‘place’ to go for people who want to have some outdoor skating fun. This popular outdoor rink is open on fine, cold days.

Credit Union Place has a fantastic outdoor rink on the Bantam Soccer Field that people can skate and play hockey on. They even offer skate and helmet rentals for people who don’t own them.

Head out of the city for a snow day with the family at Mark Arendz Provincial Ski Park. There is something for everyone at this park, including cross-country and alpine skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing. Have even more fun building snowmen and making snow angels with the kids.

6. Rotary Friendship Park

The Rotary Friendship Park transforms into a winter wonderland and has 5kms of well-groomed for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. The trails do connect to Colin Avenue and the Confederation Trail.

Take the family to the Heather Moyse Heritage Park to experience one of Summerside’s major community green spaces during the winter. The beautifully groomed trail system is open for winter walking, cross-country skiing, and bird watching.

8. The Monster Hill Behind Credit Union Place

 

Grab your sled and get ready for some excellent sledding. Right behind the Credit Union Place is the exciting Monster Hill. The easiest way to reach the hill is from Bob Dewar Street. The Monster Hill is well-known as a popular place to go sledding, so it can be very busy at times.

9. Ice Fishing on Summerside Harbour

When the temperatures drop well below zero, the Summerside Harbour freezes over. Once it is frozen over, you can spot ice fishing huts on the Harbour. A hut does make ice fishing cozier, but you don’t need one to try your hand at ice fishing in the winter.

10. Go Snowmobiling

Snowmobiling is a great way to splendid way to have a family day weekend. Keep an eye on the trail conditions, so you know when it is safe to go. Don’t have a permit? The PEI Snowmobile Association sells 3-day permits for three consecutive days.

11. Linkletter Provincial Park

Fun doesn’t stop when the snow starts falling at Linkletter Provincial Park. Go dashing through the snow on a snowmobile. For full you need for adventure by exploring the park on foot with snowshoes or cross-country skis. Get out your cold-weather gear and see Linkletter Provincial Park from a cold and snowy lens.

12. Summerside Baywalk

Take in the breathtaking winter views of the harbour from the Summerside Baywalk. The Baywalk is groomed for winter walking and fat biking. Stop to see if you can spot local birds along the trail and around the Natural Duck Pond Conservation Area.

13. Go on a Self Directed Walking Tour

Grab your jacket and learn about Summerside history. Stop by the Lefurgey Cultural Centre or the MacNaught History Centre to grab the self-guided walking tour information. The walking tour will take you through the lovely Historic House District and along Water Street to see the splendid nineteenth and early twentieth-century architecture.
