Prince Edward Island will disburse the inflationary support payments starting January 5th.
The payments announced last October are a temporary increase to the PEI Sales Tax Credit payable this month to help Islanders facing financial pressures caused by rising inflation and hurricane Fiona.
The payments which required no application will be distributed in collaboration with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).
The January 2023 payment is as follows:
- a single individual with an income of up to $100,000 will receive an additional $500. Individuals with incomes between $100,000 and approximately $125,000 will receive a prorated amount.
- couples and single parents with a combined income of up to $100,000 will receive a total increase of $1,000 ($500 for each spouse or $500 for a single parent and $500 for the first dependent child). Couples and single parents with incomes between $100,000 and $145,000 will receive a prorated amount.
Eligible Islanders who have filed their 2021 tax return with the CRA will receive payments beginning as early as January 5, 2023, as direct deposit. Those not signed up for direct deposit will receive their cheque in the mail.
