Pickering Museum Village Gets $4 million in Funding

Ms. Jennifer O’Connell, Member of Parliament (Pickering-Uxbridge), today announced $4 million in funding for the Pickering Museum Village.

The Canada Cultural Spaces Fund support will go towards the construction of the Pickering Heritage & Community Centre at the Pickering Museum Village.

 

The new 40,000-square-foot facility will house the city’s archives, local history and museum collection, theatre and exhibition space, as well as programming space for educational programs.

Nestled on the banks of Duffins Creek, Pickering Museum Village is the largest living history pioneer village in Durham Region, consisting of 19 heritage buildings from 1810-1920, gardens, and orchards.

The City of Pickering owns and operates the Pickering Museum Village. The museum attracts 10,000 to 12,500 visitors yearly (the vast majority of which are students) through a variety of public programs including workshops, events and exhibitions. The museum’s mandate it to collect and preserve the material culture of the area and develop heritage programs customized to the needs of the community.
