The Renfrew Swinging bridge is a 100 feet long suspension bridge, and is one of only 3 swinging bridges in the whole of Canada!
This splendid bridge was originally built in 1885, by the W.H. Kearney family and was less safe and scarier than the one they have today. The bridge underwent construction twice and was reconstructed with wood and cable.
The Renfrew Swinging Bridge offers a unique experience, as the bridge sways with each step you take.
From the bridge, you can see the swift-running Bonnechere River below, with its large bare rocks. You can also see Renfrew’s own power generation plant which was completed in 2015. This makes the Renfrew bridge a great place for leisure walking, where you can enjoy the splendid natural scenery. Just imagine the number of stunning pictures you can take!
Renfrew also has several other tourist attractions that you can visit, such as The McDougall Mill Museum which contains several artifacts from natives and from the town’s early industrial days. If you’re a fan of hockey you will be delighted to know that Renfrew also has the Birthplace NHA/NHL Museum.
The best time to visit the Renfrew Swinging bridge is from late spring to fall when the river banks are covered with lush green grass or beautiful autumn-hued tall trees.
