The Quarantine Maps are a series of artworks made by artist Gareth Fuller. Fuller is a British artist based in Beijing, known for his highly illustrated drawings which are a result of intense research work involving walks, often hundreds of miles.
The Maps of Quarantine includes 14 illustrations that depict his thoughts, events, experiences while under mandatory self-isolation in Beijing.
The Quarantine Maps are lighthearted, but intricate depiction of his 14 days under quarantine – with his initial drawings describing the time he spent inside his small apartment and later the terrace. His later drawings are depictions of life outside in his imagination. All his drawings are dealt with humor which belies the concern which grew with each passing day.
Now out of quarantine, he continues to create more artwork. His more recent art work is called the ‘Quarantine + Pandemic Survival Map’. This is available for free non-profit and personal use and can be downloaded online.
