Berry and Vegetable U-Pick Farms Near Calgary

The u-pick farms around Calgary offer a lot more than just berry-picking. In addition to being able to bring home berries, fruit, or vegetables by the bucket-full, visiting local u-pick farms offer an afternoon out of the house and in fresh air, a chance to forage your own food, an educational and physical activity for great for kids, and scenic drives through Calgary’s surrounding foothills and prairies.

Some u-pick farms can only accommodate by appointment and ask that you call ahead. Other good things to remember before you start your pick are to bring plenty of water and sun protection, that bathrooms may not be available on-site, and some farms may require you to bring your own bucket and gloves.

 

Purple Ridge Farms

 

The picking at Purple Ridge is by appointment only so as to accommodate for space, and when you arrive, you are guaranteed a quaint and quiet country experience. Wander the fields, enjoy the rural escape, and hunt for the Saskatoons and raspberries. Vegetables available depend on the weather, but updates can be found on their Facebook page.

Prairie Berry YYC

Choose from three different Saskatoon varieties at the Prairie Berry farm, a family-run Saskatoon Berry Farm and U-pick since 2004. The pesticide-free berries can be eaten straight from the bucket. They also have a farm market onsite with a range of local products and crafts coming in from all around Alberta.

Saskatoon Farm

 

You can plan an entire day around the events, picking, and shopping opportunities at the Saskatoon Farm. The u-pick season begins at the end of July and offers a selection of Saskatoons, sour cherries, and black currants. The Farm also boasts event spaces, a restaurant, garden centre, bakery, and farmers’ market.

Solstice Berry Farm

The Saskatoon berry-picking at Solstice begins during the last week of July! Keep watch of their social media and website for the latest upates. Their Crossfield farm is in a scenic mix of prairies and foothills where you can grab great family photos as you stock up on Saskatoons. Also head to their website for fun Saskatoon berry recipes.

Pleasant View U-pick Berries

From late June until fall you can book U-pick with Pleasant View for raspberries, rhubarb, and Saskatoons. The Crossfield farm offers u-pick by appointment only, but by calling ahead, you’ll get real-time updates on crops and fruit availability!

Poplar Bluff Organics

There is a lot of farm fun to explore with Poplar Bluff Organics, and they are hosting a number of summer events to help get you out into the country for a day. They lost their strawberry crop in 2021 to extreme heat but welcome you to visit the farm for their other events like their Free Farm Days, Ugly Veggie sale days, and picnic or dinner events.

Sweet Life Saskatoons

The Saskatoon berry-picking at Sweet Life will open as soon as possible for the 2023 season and will update their website as soon as they open. This is expected to be in late July, when you can come and pick the berries, picnic afterwards, and visit their shop for preserves and baked to goods: consider it dessert for the picnic!

Saskaberry Ranch

The Saskaberry Ranch opens in mid July for U-pick season and have plenty of fruit to pick from, as well as farm-fresh chicken, beef, lamb, and eggs. For a u-pick experience, grab a bucket and pick through strawberries, Saskatoons, and rhubarb fields.

Eagle Creek Farms

You’ll have several activity options when you come to Eagle Creek Farms in addition to an afternoon of berry- or vegetable picking.

In Augus, Eagle Creek offers flowers, potatoes, carrots, beets, beans, cucumbers, chard, peas, and pumpkins (3rd week). They’ll offer many of these same vegetables in September, plus zucchini. Check their Facebook page before heading out for daily updates.

The Jungle Farm

The Jungle Farm offers strawberry u-pick in July and August and pumpkin-picking in September and October. But beyond picking, you can also shop the garden centre, or the general store situated in a restored 1940s barn.

Red Lodge U-Pick

 

This scenic farm sits along the Red Deer River and provides a family-friendly outing in a beautiful area. You can head to Red Lodge to pick Haskaps in late June and soon raspberries which are in season for mid and late July. In August, you can head there for sour cherries.

High Country Berries

If you’re in search of a variety of berries to take home by the bucket-full, High Country Berries can offer u-pick and packs of berries for sale. Choose from different varieties of Saskatoons, Haskaps, and Raspberries. Ask about their fruit syrups, preserves, and more.
