The global apparel retailer entered the Canadian market in 2016 with its first store in Toronto. Since then, it has steadily expanded its footprint, building a network of 37 stores nationwide, in addition to its online platform. Winnipeg was identified as a strong next step as the company looks to reach new customers in central Canada.
Yuya Tanahashi, Chief Operating Officer of UNIQLO Canada, described the Winnipeg opening as a significant milestone. He said the city offers strong potential and noted the company’s focus on providing essential clothing for everyday use, while continuing to engage with local communities.
The CF Polo Park location will carry UNIQLO’s full LifeWear assortment for men, women, children, and babies. Shoppers will also find seasonal collaborations and the UT line of graphic T-shirts. The store will operate within UNIQLO’s global retail model, which links in-store shopping with access to products through uniqlo.com.
Globally, UNIQLO operates more than 2,500 stores. The company was founded in 1984, opening its first store in Hiroshima, Japan. Its approach to apparel emphasizes simplicity, quality, comfort, and long-lasting design.
Alongside the store opening, UNIQLO is expanding recruitment in Winnipeg. The company plans to hire locally and will host career fairs to introduce job seekers to available roles.
