Winnipeg for the Holidays
The city of Winnipeg is bursting with holiday cheer this December. Whether you’re here for your own interests and a vacation, or to see family and friends, you’ll have several options on how to spend you getaway in Winnipeg.
- Save on festive packages or find holiday events and dining through hotels like the Fairmont Winnipeg, the Fort Garry Hotel & Conference Centre, or the Inn at the Forks.
- Lace up for an afternoon at one of Winnipeg’s several outdoor community rinks, or one of three natural skating surfaces: Kildonan Park, Harbourview Recreation Complex, or St. Vital Park Duck Pond. The Recreation Complex is also home to a large toboggan hill, while St. Vital and Kildonan Parks are home to winter slides.
- And all four City of Winnipeg parks listed above offer groomed cross-country ski trails. More trails are found at Crescent Drive Park, La Barriere Park, and the Windsor Park Golf Course. Downhill skiing is also available right beside the city! Hit the hills of Winnipeg’s Spring Hill Winter Park, whether by ski, snowboard, or snowtube.
- CF Polo Park is a large indoor shopping centre on the west side of Winnipeg. And over the holiday season and Christmas break, the mall will host live musical performances and visits with Santa until December 24th while the entire mall twinkles with festive light displays.
- Visit with another local attraction, the Assiniboine Park Zoo, to find another opportunity for getting into the holiday spirit. The park will host Zoo Lights from November 21, 2025, to January 1, 2026.
- Family-friendly fun is all over the city this Christmas season, including RWB’s The Nutcracker and Manitoba Theatre for Young People. Over the holidays, catch a showing of Munsch Upon a Time at the Prairie Theatre Exchange and The Lightning Thief at MTYP.

Riding Mountain National Park for the Holidays
The extensive winter trails of Riding Mountain National Park (270km northwest of Winnipeg) can easily fill a day’s worth of fun and adventure. In total, the park boasts over 130km of winter trails! Choose between hitting the trails by foot, ski, snowshoe, or fat tire bike. The large park is divided into several different sections, and drive times to each will vary greatly depending on where you want to explore.
- The Moon Lake and Bread Lakes areas are both perfect for skiers with several longer and shorter loops of groomed ski-only trails.
- Fat bikers can get in a good ride on the Moon Lake or Brule loops.
- Snowshoers and hikers can head to the Lake Katherine Multi-Use trail system for various loops of different lengths.
