Vancouver, Edmonton to Host World Series Rugby Sevens Tournaments in September

Vancouver and Edmonton will both host HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series events in September.

Once approval is received from various levels of government, these tournaments would mark the first Sevens Series events on Canadian soil since the HSBC Canada Sevens in Vancouver in March, 2020.

The first of the HSBC Canada Sevens tournament will be played on September 18 and 19th at BC Place in Vancouver following which competing national 7s teams will travel to Alberta for the September 25/26th debut of the HSBC Canada Sevens at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton.

Alberta’s Stage 3 of Open for Summer Plan allows for just over 31,000 fans per day at Commonwealth Stadium.

Vancouver and Edmonton will join Singapore, Hong Kong, Dubai and Cape Town in hosting the 6 tournaments that will make up the 2021 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series for men.

Paris will join Hong Kong, Dubai and Cape Town to present 4 women’s events for the 2021 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.

The women’s season will featured events in Hong Kong, Dubai and Cape Town as well as Paris. The hope is Langford, B.C., will return to the circuit next year.
