Discover the rich culture and history of Saskatchewan aboard the Wheatland Express.
Operated by a non-profit organization that was established in 2017, the Wheatland Express runs between the communities of Cudworth and Wakaw near Saskatoon. In January 2018, the organization bought its very first passenger train “The Lake Erie” and sold out all of its tours with around 3,500 passengers.
Since then, Wheatland Express has been taking passengers on a variety of train tours on 47 miles of track from St. Louis and the Totzke junction on Treaty 6 Territory.
In 2022, the train excursions are available between June and December.
Wheatland Express offers various tour experiences, such as concerts, train heists, murder mystery-themed rides and family tours and a prairie-inspired menu made with locally sourced ingredients.
They have an upcoming Shania Twain Tribute Show by Donna Huber who is one of the most successful tribute acts in Canada, US and Europe. Another tribute show is The Eagles Salute Excursion by the Long Run. Both shows include dinner and rides will be departing from Cudworth.
If you are looking for a fun train trip with kids, then choose Family Summer Express Excursion, which is a 2-3 hour ride that includes entertainment for children, music, face painting as well as lunch.
For a fun date idea, book tickets for Murder on the Wheatland Express, a fun mystery-themed ride or the Great Prairie Heist Excursion, a train robbery-themed trip.
During Halloween and Christmas, they also have themed rides for the whole family.
All of these tours on Wheatland’s historic railcars are round trips. You can also plan a private train experience or buy gift certificates online. The train tour tickets start at $60.
