Discover the rich culture and history of Saskatchewan aboard the Wheatland Express.

Wheatland Express
Operated by a non-profit organization that was established in 2017, the Wheatland Express runs between the communities of Cudworth and Wakaw near Saskatoon. In January 2018, the organization purchased its first passenger train, “The Lake Erie,” and sold out all of its tours, attracting around 3,500 passengers.
Since then, Wheatland Express has been taking passengers on a variety of train tours on 47 miles of track from St. Louis and the Totzke junction on Treaty 6 Territory.
Wheatland Express offers various tour experiences, such as train heists, murder mystery-themed rides, and family tours and a prairie-inspired menu made with locally sourced ingredients.
If you are looking for a fun train trip with kids, then choose the Family Summer Express Excursion, which is a 2.5-3 hour ride that includes entertainment for children, music, face painting, and lunch.
For a fun date idea, book tickets for the Murder Mystery Excursion, a fun mystery-themed ride, or the Great Prairie Train Heist, a train robbery-themed trip.
During the Christmas season, family-friendly Magical Christmas Express offers a festive train experience through the prairies, featuring caroling, live entertainment, hot cocoa, and visits with Santa. Optional food packages are available to enhance the journey.
Train excursions typically run between June and December. The 2026 season will open on May 30 with She Can Thrive – The Escape Express, an evening prairie ride featuring fashion, strawberry-themed cocktails, and giveaways valued at 4,000 dollars, designed as a ladies’ night out.
To mark the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Legion, the Wheatland Express will offer a 3.5-hour Legion Tribute Train experience featuring presentations, storytelling and commemorative activities, along with events in Little Big Town including a ribbon cutting for the Legion Tribute Garden and access to the museum and station grounds as part of Wakaw Legion No. 195 Day celebrations.
All of these tours on Wheatland’s historic railcars are round-trip. You can also plan a private train experience or buy gift certificates online.
