WHO Declares COVID-19 a Pandemic

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, World Health Organisation’s director-general has declared COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) a pandemic.

Globally there are more than 11300 cases of COVID-19 across 114 countries with 4012 deaths.

The only other current pandemic is HIV/AIDS.

2009 flu pandemic (H1N1)  and the 1918 influenza pandemic (Spanish flu) were the other pandemics of the modern world.

Current Scenario in Canada

Currently in Canada, the total positive COVID-19 cases stand at 101, with 39 cases in British Columbia, 14  in Alberta, 41 in Ontario and 7 in Quebec. Of these 101, 9 cases, 4 in B.C. and 5 in Ontario were fully resolved, with each of those patients having two consecutive negative tests at least 24 hours apart.

British Columbia recorded Canada’s first fatality from COVID-19.
