Winter in the National Capital Region is getting its annual glow-up, and the result is a walkable, city-wide light show that turns familiar landmarks into something a little more magical.

Erstwhile Christmas Lights Across Canada, which began in 1985 as a small festive initiative, is returning to Canada’s Capital Region on December 8, illuminating Ottawa with dazzling lights.
Similar to last year, no special light-up activities are planned for this year.
In Ottawa and Gatineau, thousands of lights create a glowing pathway that connects many of the region’s best-known landmarks. You can drive the whole loop or just wander through a stretch of it, either way, it’s an easy invitation to explore and see the capital from a fresh perspective.
These include:
- National War Memorial
- Rideau Canal Park
- Confederation Park
- Mackenzie Triangle
- Reconciliation: The Peacekeeping Monument
- Jacques-Cartier Park
- Garden of Provinces and Territories
- Portage Park
- Supreme Court of Canada
This year’s edition runs December 8, 2025, through January 9, 2026, offering more than a month to take in the displays at your own pace.
Winter Lights Across Canada is not the only place to enjoy the magical Christmas light display in Ottawa; you can go on a car ride enjoying lights at Wesley Clover Parks, walk the holiday trail at Saunders Farm or Stanley Farm, or even take a day trip to Upper Canada Village to enjoy the famous Alight at Night.
