Eleven hospitals in Canada have been recognized among the world’s best 250 hospitals, and Toronto General Hospital was named the third-best hospital in the world.

Newsweek and Statista have released the “World’s Best Hospitals 2025” ranking, evaluating over 2,400 hospitals across 30 countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
This year’s ranking assessed 2,445 hospitals, highlighting the top 250 globally. Top institutions on the list include Mayo Clinic – Rochester, Cleveland Clinic, Toronto General, The Johns Hopkins Hospital, and Karolinska Universitetssjukhuset (Sweden).
This marks the sixth instance of Toronto General being listed among the top five in the World’s Best Hospitals ranking. It is also the only Canadian hospital to make the top 10.
Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (No. 24), Mount Sinai Hospital (No. 32), North York General Hospital (57),
Montreal General Hospital – McGill University Health Centre (No. 89) and Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (92) appear in the top 100.

The rankings are based on a combination of medical expert surveys, patient experience data, hospital quality metrics, and the implementation of Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs).
The assessment included recommendations from tens of thousands of doctors, hospital managers, and healthcare professionals. Patient satisfaction surveys and publicly available hospital quality data were also considered. Scores were weighted, with national peer recommendations accounting for 35%, international recommendations for 5%, patient experience for 17.5%, hospital quality metrics for 37.5%, and PROMs implementation for 5%.
