PEI Public Library Service is doing good on its mission of providing Islanders with diverse resources and materials to enhance their experiences and make them more accessible to all.

PEI Public Library Service
The PEI Public Library Service has expanded its Library of Things collection to include an array of home and garden tools and assistive technology that all Islanders can access for free.
Anyone with a PEI Public Library card can borrow these items by having them delivered to their local library branch for pick-up.
New tools include bike repair kits, cultivators, gardening edgers, gardening hoes, garden tool sets, home tool sets, rakes, shovels, spading forks, and stud finders. The move is aimed at helping families try new activities without incurring the usual costs associated with purchasing new tools.

PEI Public Library Service
The PEI Public Library Service has also introduced assistive technology to its Library of Things collection to make reading more accessible for everyone.
This technology includes C-Pens – portable scanning pens that use an embedded camera, real-time optical character recognition (OCR), and natural voice text-to-speech (TTS) to read printed text out loud. C-Pens are specifically designed to assist people with reading challenges such as dyslexia or those learning to read in English, French, and some other languages.
Noise-cancelling headphones have also been added to the collection to help adults and children on the autism spectrum, as well as those with ADHD and sensory processing disorder, cope with loud sounds. Islanders can place holds on the C-Pens and noise-cancelling headphones and have them delivered to their local library branch to borrow.
