2. Stephen Clarke

Toronto’s newest contemporary music collective presents two works by Romanian composer Horatiu Radulescu (1942-2008), the “proto-spectralist” performed by pianist Stephen Clarke. The Third Sonata “you will endure forever” and Sixth Sonata “return to the source of light” take their inspiration from the Tao Te Ching and present Romanian folk melodies on a spectral “canvas”. 3. Kobzari – Shumka & The Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus

In a historic first, two of North America’s premier Ukrainian performing arts ensembles present an evening of song, music, dance and bandura. Celebrating the legacy of Ukraine’s national poet Taras Shevchenko, the Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus of North America and Canada’s Ukrainian Shumka Dancers will stage joint performances. Details

Canadian Muslim Singer/Songwriter Nader Khan and The Blacksmiths, Beat boxer group Mustaqeem and poet Rowda Mohamud provide an eclectic evening that seamlessly blends musical traditions from the Muslim world with North American musical genres. Details

7. Ella Fitzgerald 100th Birthday Tribute

With The Darcy Hepner Jazz Orchestra. Sophia Perlman has become a fixture of the Ontario jazz and blues scene. Her musicality, old-soul voice and skill as an improviser have made her a first-call featured singer with some of the top ensembles and musicians in the country. In addition to performing and touring with her own quartet, she is found performing regularly with numerous artists and ensembles, including Adrean Farrugia, The Toronto Jazz Orchestra, and The Darcy Hepner Jazz Orchestra.
