Here are 10 reasons why you should consider a trip to Echo Valley in winter.
1. Go Skating
Throughout January, the Aspen campground is offering visitors the chance to skate along the campground’s winding trail. The trail is open daily except for Monday and Tuesday for maintenance, so grab your skates and go on a beautiful winter adventure! Getting cold? Head to the fire to warm up.
2. Spot Winter Birds
Are you interested in birds? Grab your binoculars and your bird identification book and hit the trails with your hiking boots or your snowshoes. There are lots of birds to find even in the winter, and plenty of other wildlife to keep an eye out for too!

3. Explore Echo Valley on Snowshoes
Another fun activity to try when you head to this park is to go snowshoeing. Grab your snowshoes and experience the beauty of this park while you explore the trails. The park also has snowshoes available for rent at the visitor centre.

4. Hike
Many people associate activities like hiking with the warmer months, but there are just as many opportunities to go exploring in the winter. Dress warm and hit the trails at Echo Valley Provincial Park. There are lots of trails to choose from of varying difficulty, meaning there’s the perfect hiking adventure for everyone.
5. Warm up in a Sauna
Nestled within Echo Valley Provincial Park, Back2Nature Wellness and Adventures welcomes visitors to embrace rejuvenation through their wood-burning barrel saunas. These saunas offer relaxation and health benefits like detoxification and stress reduction. These self-guided sauna experiences are preheated and ready for use; guests only need to bring their water bottle and towels.
6. Join for a Guided Tour
If you’d prefer to have a guided experience with the park, there are a couple of great tour options available at the park. These guided programs are free with a valid Park Entry Permit, and equipment is provided on a first-come first-served basis.
From January 6, 2024, to March 2, 2024, there will be guided snowshoe hikes and Nordic skiing available every Saturday. At 2 p.m., there will be a “New to Nordic” session, which includes a guided cross-country ski along a 1.5-kilometer snow-covered trail where you can learn set-track skiing techniques. At 6:30 p.m., there will be a “Whimsical Wanderings Snowshoe Stroll,” where you can learn snowshoe basics while taking a scenic walk through twinkling lights in Echo Valley and interact with mythical characters along the way.

7. Try Ice Fishing
Do you love fishing in the warmer months? You don’t have to give up fishing just because it’s winter. At this provincial park, you’ll be able to bring your rod and head to Pasqua Lake, where you’ll get to try your hand at ice fishing. Just remember to bring your fishing license!

8. Glide on Skis
If you love cross-country skiing, Echo Valley Provincial Park offers a lot of great opportunities to explore the park with your skis. With 10km of well-groomed trails available for you to explore, the park is a wonderful place to check out. Remember to dress warm!

9. Challenge the Ninja Warrior Course
Explore the exciting Ninja Warrior-inspired activity course complete with a 50-foot ninja slack line filled with challenging obstacles, a bouldering wall, and a convenient 100-foot zipline for easy access from the Visitor Centre to the course. While the course is suitable for all ages, it is recommended to enjoy it with adult supervision.
10. Sleepover Getaway
Kick back and relax for the weekend in the outdoors! Camp-Easy yurts or tents are available at the park until March 15, 2024, for $85 per night. These accommodations offer comfort with amenities like bunk-style cots, heating options, and cooking facilities, all set up for you. Camp-Easy bookings are available for stays from Thursday through Sunday, with checkout on Monday. Night Camping at electrical sites is offered at a rate of $29 per night.
