1. Go Skating on Ramsey Lake
One the water freezes over Ramsey Lake in Sudbury offers a 1.5km skating path. Get out on the ice a spend a few hours skating around. Whether you’re a pro or a beginner, you’ll have a great time here!

2. Enjoy a Winter Walking
Celebrate a bright winter’s day with a walk on Jim Gordon Boardwalk located in Bell Park. The path that begins at Science North navigates the edge of Ramsey Lake making it a perfect place to enrich both body and mind in winter.
If you want more options, the Delki Dozzi track and Fielding Memorial Park’s Kelly Lake Trail are excellent places for a leisurely winter walk.
3. Slide Down a Hill
Sudbury is home to several parks with great hills for sledding. Visit Bell Park and spend a few hours sliding down the unofficial toboggan hill. Even if you just go by yourself, you’ll still have a great time!

4. Skate Amidst a Forest

6. Explore Kivi Park
This is a great park to visit if you’re looking to get back into nature. Skate through the beautiful birch trees on Nina’s Way Skate Path. Go hiking along the park’s trails, or bring your snowshoes. You can also go cross-country skiing! The park also has a new beginner’s Fat Bike trail, just oof of the Raft Lake parking lot. Snowshoe and fat bike rentals are available at the park.

7. Downhill Ski at Lively Ski Hill
Located in Lively, this is another great place for some downhill skiing. Grab your mitts and your toque and hit the slopes! You can always try snowboarding here too if that’s more your speed.

8. Explore Lake Laurentian Conservation Area
Located within easy distance from downtown Sudbury is this tranquil green space that is a favourite with many locals. Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing as well as observing wildlife are popular activities to enjoy in winter.

9. Enjoy a Night Skate
For a quiet evening skate under the lights, head to Queen’s Athletic Skating Oval.

There are tons of fun things to do when you visit this lodge, even when snow hits the ground. Hop on your snowmobile and head to the pike or trout lakes for some ice fishing. Or just take a walk to appreciate the beauty of the frozen lake in winter.

16. Visit Mouth Park

17. See a Snowy Falls
The Onaping High Falls (also known as High Falls) is located 35km west of Sudbury. The falls are popular for their impressive beauty. The Onaping River drops over 150 feet in the area, with the largest of the series of falls dropping 30 feet. If you want to view the falls and take a couple of memorable photos, the A.Y. Jackson Lookout is the place to do it. Good hiking boots or snow cleats are a must if you plan on taking the trail during the winter season.

To some people, the idea of winter camping sounds crazy. But in truth, it’s really fun! Challenge yourself by trying your hand at winter camping at Killarney Provincial Park.
