What does authentic Canadian cuisine mean to you? There are talented Indigenous chefs and chef teams in the Edmonton area who can show you what Indigenous and Canadian cuisine mean to them! Some things to expect from all these restaurants and take-out stops are locally sourced ingredients, fusions with other cuisines, and unique takes on traditional Indigenous foods from across Canada.

Homefire Grill

At the Homefire Grill in Edmonton’s west end, they want you to think of their food as “fire to table comfort food.” This means the dishes you order are made with locally sourced ingredients and prepared with smoke, fire, and heat. There is no middle-man, just fresh goodness filled with flavours inspired by the prairies. The menu offers international dishes fused with traditional Indigenous cuisine like poutine topped with ground elk, pork chops encrusted with Bannock and cheese, sausage rose pasta, or their selection of oven-fired pizzas.

Tee Pee Treats Indigenous Cuisine

The chefs at Tee Pee Treats want to show you the versatility of Bannock (and can do so through a catering or to-go menu)! As described by Tee Pee Treats (Emily Hutton), Bannock is “…fry bread, which originates from Scotland but was eventually adopted by the Indigenous peoples of Canada, particularly the Métis of western Canada…It is a simple bread, but quick to make and useful for travelling and while in the wilderness.”

You can try all sorts of burgers on Bannock buns, Bannock donairs, and Bannock hotdogs. They also offer fresh salads and

Pei Pei Chei Ow

The local catering company of Pei Pei Chei Ow (pronounced “pe-pe-s-chew”) created a menu which takes the best of western cuisine and combines them with the best flavours of traditional Indigenous foods. Their standard catering menu offers Bannock Bites, stews, Shepherd’s Pie, fish and meat dishes, and a variety of desserts. You can also make your catering menu your own- ask them about their custom or larger party menus.
