Cool Fall temperatures see scores of Chinook Salmon fighting their way up rivers and streams on their annual spawning run.

Blue Mountain Watershed Trust
Ontario’s first watershed trust, Blue Mountain Watershed Trust, is holding a festival right in the middle of the annual salmon migration to celebrate this amazing Fall phenomenon on September 27th along Pretty River in Nottawa.
The highlight of the day is a self-guided 20-minute hike through riverside woods, where visitors can stop at three learning stations. Experts from local groups, including Georgian Bay Forever and the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority, will explain salmon spawning and riparian habitats, while kids collect stamps for their “fish passports.”
Children can enjoy crafts, games, and a giant inflatable salmon hosted by Elephant Thoughts. Free meals are available for kids under 10, while OG Souvlaki Food Bar will serve lunch for all. Live performances feature singer Emily Power and, starting at 11:30, crowd favourites Deep Tracks.

For those looking to go further, two salmon tours are on offer. Cyclists can follow a 25-kilometre route through roads and trails to nearby rivers and streams before looping back for lunch.
Drivers can also explore viewing sites in Collingwood, Thornbury, and Nottawa, including the Beaver River’s fish ladder.

Admission is $10 for ages 11 and up, $5 for kids 6–10 (including a meal), while children under 5 get in free. The event takes place at 11 Buist Street in Nottawa, just off County Road 124.
