Alberta has launched a new online health system dashboard designed to give the public regular access to performance data across the province’s health care system.

The dashboard is intended to provide clear, up-to-date information on how care is delivered locally and how the system is performing on measures that directly affect patients. Data will be updated monthly, following a short reporting lag to allow figures from multiple systems to be reconciled and validated.
The rollout will happen in stages. The first phase focuses on surgical data, including select surgery volumes and wait times, as well as cancer surgery volumes and wait times. These figures allow comparisons across acute care facilities provincewide.
In the coming weeks, additional indicators will be added. These include primary care measures such as provider attachment and cervical cancer screening rates, along with more acute care metrics. Over time, the dashboard will expand further to include assisted living, mental health, and addiction data.
“This dashboard puts patients first, clearly shows key results and holds the system accountable,” said Adriana LaGrange, Alberta’s Minister of Primary and Preventative Health Services. She said the tool will continue to grow to provide a fuller picture of how care is delivered across Alberta.
Matt Jones, Minister of Hospital and Surgical Health Services, said the dashboard focuses on outcomes that matter to patients and will strengthen accountability as more measures are added.
The platform also includes an interactive map showing acute care facilities that perform surgeries. The map outlines the number and types of procedures completed at each site. While only one map is currently available, additional maps are planned.
The performance metrics included were selected using feedback gathered during health care refocusing engagement sessions.
