B.C to Reopen Gyms on Jan. 20th; Other Measures Extended Until Feb. 16th

British Columbia is lifting some of the COVID-19 restrictions that were in place since December 23rd of last year.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry today announced that gyms and fitness centres can reopen on Jan. 20th.

Strict measures would have to be followed by fitness centres and they include:

  • 7 square metres of space between workout machines or people in a group class
  • Masks worn at all times, except when actively exercising.
  • Pre-bookings for drop-in individual fitness where operationally possible

Announcing the reopening of gyms, Dr. Henry said, “I’m taking the cautious step of reopening gyms and exercise facilities.”

All other restrictions including the closure of bars and nightclubs and a ban on indoor gatherings like weddings and parties, will continue at least until February 16th.

Indoor personal gatherings at homes are allowed and are limited to households plus 10 visitors or 1 other household.
