Calgarians and visitors are in for a treat this Canada Day as downtown Calgary prepares for a day full of festivities on July 1. The celebration promises to be a free and family-friendly event, showcasing the diversity and richness of Canadian culture.
The highlight of the day will include an Indigenous showcase and powwow, offering a glimpse into the vibrant traditions and artistry of Indigenous communities, and live music performances by renowned Canadian artists throughout the day.
In addition to the cultural performances, there will be various activities to keep everyone entertained. Face painting, turban tying, and lion dances are just a few of the attractions on offer. Visitors can explore the street fair, indulge in delicious treats from food trucks, and even take part in walking tours to learn more about the city’s heritage.
The festivities will take place at multiple downtown locations, including Fort Calgary, St. Patrick’s Island, Olympic Plaza, and the Municipal Building. These venues will host different activities and performances, ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
The Main Stage lineup at Fort Calgary begins with a blessing and honour song, followed by a Grizzly Bear Dance and the National Anthem. Performances by Dear Rouge, Josh Sahunta, Justine Tyrell, William Prince, Joanna Magik, and The Funk Hunters will take place throughout the evening.
St. Patrick’s Island Park will feature three stages with music and artistic performances, along with food trucks and outdoor activities. Confluence Plaza Stage will feature fun family activities, The Rise Stage will offer a grassy knoll venue for musical acts, and the Trout Beach Stage will host a variety of musical duos.
