The federal government today officially reinstated the warning against all non-essential travel as the cases due to the new COVID-19 variant, Omicron is increasing across the world.
International travel advisory which was instituted at the beginning of the pandemic was initially lifted on October 22nd.
“To those who were planning to travel, I say very clearly now is not the time to travel,” Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos said during today’s news conference.
The advisory will remain for at least four weeks before it is reevaluated.
Canada is now testing inbound air travellers from all countries except the U.S. for COVID-19 at the point of entry airport. Currently, the testing is conducted randomly and the government “is increasing the number of fully vaccinated travellers being selected for testing to reach 100% of vaccinated travellers in the coming weeks.
