Events Description
The Mountain Wave Classic is the only River Surfing Competition in Western Canada. Athletes will showcase their best tricks on the Mountain wave, a standalone wave in the heart of the Rockies.
This year will be the 18th edition and we are expecting 30 athletes (male and female) to compete and win the trophies of Best River Surfer 2023. This year\’s edition will follow strict international judging criteria and will offer the opportunity to make River surfing known to a growing audience.
River surfing is exploding in Europe with the construction of about 30 waves this year, the creation of a river surfing league (rapid surf league – here) and the first Europe Vs North America competition (here) last year.
In a context where a new adjustable river wave will be built in the next 12 – 18 months in Kananaskis, and there are advanced conversations about building one in Harvie Passage and potentially the largest man-made wave in the world right in downtown Calgary, we thought we would share our upcoming competition with you.
