Bison Survival Story Robe recalls the history of the bison as a story of both slaughter and survivance. Once numbering in the millions, bison herds were driven to the brink of extinction in the nineteenth century. A small group, known as the Pablo-Allard herd, survived in Montana before being sold to Canada and transported to Wood Buffalo National Park. This herd repopulated the bison we see today. Bison Story Robe shares this history in the form of a pictographic winter count drawing on the Blackfoot tradition of recording collective memory on hide.
