Events Description

For 34 years, Lunchbox Theatre has been dedicated to the creation, development and production of new Canadian one-act plays, many of which have gone on to great acclaim after their premiere on our stage. Come by and be a part of the process and creation! Attend the FREE workshop readings and help us shape the new plays that will grace the Lunchbox stage in years to come.

For our 2022 Stage One Festival, we particularly focused on submissions of scripts that reflect one or more of the following themes:

Indigenous perspectives
joyful explorations of identity
hopeful looks at the future
the climate crisis, particularly stories that positively imagine ways forward
connection across lines of difference
… and of course: comedies, love stories and plays for the winter holidays

Kisapmata
BIANCA MIRANDA
Saturday March 12, 2022 at 1:30pm

The Tagalog word “kisapmata” means “blink of an eye”. It’s also the title of a punk banger by Filipino band, Rivermaya. Inspired by this song, this play tells the love story of two Filipina women – one living in the diaspora and the other, born and raised in the Philippines. Through intimate vignettes, we see the longing, the diving in, and eventually, the letting go.

Stuck at school over the holidays, he wants to make Christmas special for Donna, the girl in the practice room next to his, who inspires him with her music. Anton sets to work on making creative presents that charm Donna as they count down the twelve days to Christmas. But when his rival, Robert, invites Donna to spend Christmas with him at his family’s Toronto Mansion, Anton needs to decide how far he’s willing to go to give her the perfect gift.
