About Bowness Park Calgary

Bowness Park Calgary

Bowness Park Calgary

Bowness park is located on land donated to the City of Calgary in 1911 by John Hextall.

In olden days, there were a number of facilities in the park including swimming pool, scenic railway, the lagoon for canoeing and boating (with a fountain and central phonograph), a large dancing pavilion, a merry-go-round, train, picnic tables and shelters, swings and teeter-totters, camping sites and cabins which could be rented by the week or month . The lagoon is used extensively for skating in the winter.

The park closed in 2012 for redevelopment. West side of the park reopened in November 2014. The east side will remain partially closed until the summer of 2016.
