Events Description
Witch hunts have been around for at least seven hundred years. We have thousands of court historical documents of “interrogations” and “trials” of accused witches, the vast majority of whom were women and children whose worst crimes were to be old or defiant or different. Several notable individuals led these hunts, by writing essays and books on identifying witches and demons, by passing laws, and by going town-to-town and getting their hands dirty.
Many of these notable individuals lived long lives, made plenty of money and power and influence, and died of old age or the plague. But some of them had…karmically satisfying ends.
They sought to profit off of fear, and they were often successful at that for a while. Sometimes, the powerful figure protecting them died and left them vulnerable to the whims of the next regime. Sometimes, they accused the wrong person. And other times, the very communities they preyed upon turned on them.
Come join us for this NEW class on witchy history, where Megan will profile a selection of historical witchfinders who didn’t quite achieve whatever glory they’d hoped to find when they took up their pricking needles.
