Events Description
with the NAC Orchestra’s brass musicians
Brass takes centre stage in this radiant fall edition of Music for a Sunday Afternoon, curated by Chris Lee, Principal Tuba of the NAC Orchestra. Expect the rich sonorities and bold colours of the brass family—horns, trumpets, trombones, and tuba—woven through an afternoon of expressive contrasts.
Surrounded by the architectural marvels of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church—revered for its top-notch acoustics—you’ll experience the NAC Orchestra’s brass musicians in a setting that amplifies every shimmer and resonance. From luminous fanfares and serene chorales to bold symphonic textures, the program explores the full emotional and tonal range of brass instruments. Between the grandeur of sacred works and the brilliance of contemporary writing, this concert offers a warm, uplifting journey through sound and season—celebrating both the power and the poetry of brass.
Selections include works by Beethoven, Bach, Bruckner, Gabrieli, and Böhme, alongside a piece by Canadian composer Roger Deegan. The concert features familiar faces like Karen Donnelly, Principal Trumpet, and welcomes Giuseppe Fu, the NAC Orchestra’s new Principal Trombone.
