Day of the Dead Celebration – Día de los Muertos

October 26, 2019

October 26, 2019

Artscape Wychwood Barns, 601 Christie Street, Toronto

Events Description

Día de los Muertos Collective, a Mexican community-run nonprofit organization, and – since 2013 – Casa Maíz, a Toronto-based cultural organization coordinate the efforts of musicians, Mexica (Aztec) dancers, culinary creators, artisans, visual artists and performers among others to bring this community-sponsored celebration for the 10th year to Artscape Wychwood Barns. This celebration is a living altar created by everyone in the greater Toronto community.

This year’s multi-day celebration will begin on October 19 with theater presentations and the opening of Maria Luisa de Villa’s solo exhibition, “CEMPOALXOCHITL Petalos de Oro – Marigold Petals.” Full festivities will take over the entire Wychwood Barns site on October 26, featuring Altars, Arts & Crafts, Workshops, Traditional Mexican Food, Music, Aztec Dance Ceremony, Art Installations, First Nations Drum Circle & Dance, Traditional Funeral Procession, Performances, Artist talk and more!

Bring a (marigold) yellow/orange flower to place in the community altar as an offering to your beloved ones that have passed away.
