Toronto
Events Description
Our season opener sparkles with superstar soloist, Andrew Wan, concertmaster of Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, performing the Beethoven violin concerto. The concerto is recognized as a beacon lighting the way from the Classical era to the subsequent Romantic era – that of Finnish composer, Jean Sibelius. You’ll hear his landmark Second Symphony written in 1908, dubbed the “Symphony of Independence” by those who connected its grandiose finale with Finland’s struggle for freedom from Russia. It’s a theme that resonates just as strongly today. Matthew Jones, Music Director.
