Events Description

Canadian street artist, Fathima (@fatspatrol) is participating in her first-ever solo exhibit which will take her work out of the public domain and into Worth Gallery in Toronto, a unique gallery that showcases contemporary street art. The exhibit runs from September 21 – October 8 during regular gallery hours.

About:
I started drawing humans during the first lockdown. After living as a bird in my art for 7 years, this solemn contactless moment in the world forced me to come to terms with my own complex human existence. And how it was defined and represented in ways that tell you nothing about me. Man-made categories of race, gender, world status. Immigrant, non-immigrant.

We are far more complex: resilience, vulnerability, trauma, grief, fight or flight, humorous and lewd. The layers that make up a human. Unconscious and conscious feelings. Inner thoughts vs. outer facades. Smiling on the surface, gritting teeth on the inside. Warriors living with fragments of our parents’ culture with the accents of our friends. Each human: a unique and wonderfully detailed hybrid work of art. This body of work was made in 2023.
