Get ready for an unforgettable evening of creative cocktails and fierce competition at Miku Toronto’s highly anticipated Gin-uary Bar Battle on January 28th.
Sponsored by Valley of Mother of God Gin, this exciting event will feature Miku’s General Manager and Mixologist Oliver Robles going head-to-head with Dash Tume, Mixologist from the award-winning Bar Pompette—recently named the winner of Canada’s Best Bar by Canada’s 100 Best 2024 and a standout on North America’s 50 Best Bars list.
For just $50 per person tax inclusive, this battle of flavour and ingenuity is set to bring a unique twist to Toronto’s cocktail scene, with both competitors showcasing their most innovative gin-based creations.
The event promises a night of expertly crafted cocktails in honour of Gin-uary, perfect for those looking to explore the art of gin mixing. For the set price of $50, guests will enjoy a curated selection of sample-sized cocktails from both Oliver and Dash, paired with gourmet canapés and Miku’s signature sushi. The menu includes Miku’s crowd-favourites such as their salmon oshi sushi, crispy brussels sprouts and ume sour squid—bringing together the best of Japanese-inspired cuisine and contemporary cocktail culture.
The battle will feature two cocktails from each competitor.
Robles will be serving his smoky and citrusy creation, crafted with Valley of Mother of God’s Maplewood Smoked Gin, yuzu juice, smoked rosemary, fresh grated anise, and honey syrup, alongside a bold espresso-infused concoction made with Valley of Mother of God Canadian Dry Gin, espresso-infused Campari, sweet vermouth, smoked rosemary, and egg white. Meanwhile, Tume will present a refreshing blend of Valley of Mother of God Canadian Dry Gin, honey, pineapple, pain au chocolat, Hojicha, and lemon, paired with a daring mix of Valley of Mother of God Maplewood Smoked Gin, verjus, tomato, strawberry, gentian liqueur, and bianco vermouth.
A panel of expert judges, including Valley of Mother of God Gin co-founders Shelly Perry and Malcolm Roberts, will determine the winner of the Gin-uary Bar Battle. The mixologist who claims the judges’ vote will earn the prestigious title of champion, while guests in attendance will have their chance to vote for their favourite cocktail in the People’s Choice category. The winner of the judges’ vote will earn the coveted title of Gin-uary Bar Battle champion, while the People’s Choice winner will take home bragging rights for their crowd-favourite cocktail.
The evening will be a celebration of not just gin, but creativity, flavour, and the craft of cocktail making.
