Events Description
Experience the joy and unity of gospel music as the Universal Gospel Choir (UGC) presents “For the Love of Gospel,” a concert in celebration of Black History on March 3rd, 2024.
The choir will perform with the renowned Artistic Director of the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir, Terrance Kelly. A long time friend of the Universal Gospel Choir, the audience will be treated as Terrance shares his dynamic baritone voice, inspiring musical direction and lifelong passion of preserving Black gospel music and spiritual singing traditions.
For the Love of Gospel will feature an electric and inspiring repertoire, including Gregory Porter’s “Revival”, the civil rights anthem “People Get Ready”, and the exciting choral work, “Psalm 150” by Twinkie Clark.
The audience will have the opportunity to experience the signature soul-stirring sound of UGC under the direction of Lonnie Delisle. Additionally this year, UGC and Terrance will partner with local community singers to perform selected songs from the “For the Love of Gospel – gospel music workshop” hosted earlier in the week.
Established in 1985, the Universal Gospel Choir is Vancouver’s longest-lived gospel choir and its annual celebrations of Black History are eagerly anticipated. Equally, the choir looks forward to our annual collaborations with Terrance and his choir, through gospel music workshops, conventions, and performances that have helped to shape the high energy and high calibre sound of the 70-voice UGC choir and band.
Join us … For the Love of Gospel… and celebrate the uplifting rhythms and powerful melodies of the Black gospel music tradition.
