Vassa

Vassa by Maxim Gorky

The Horseradish Theatre celebrates its second anniversary with Vassa, a powerful play by Maxim Gorky.

We often think of history as something driven by men. But was women’s role truly limited to quiet acceptance of their fate—or is there something we have overlooked?

Vassa explores the place of a woman at the breaking points of history: when society splits into “us” and “them,” when living by the old rules is no longer possible, and the new path is not yet clear. In such moments, the woman becomes the foundation in a rapidly polarizing world.

If she falters, it may mark not only the end of a family—but the end of an entire era.

Performed in Russian with simultaneous English translation available through individual headsets (limited number of headsets upon request).
